What your website is missing - building a Digital Castle that converts

Your website shouldn’t be a brochure. It shouldn’t be a holding page. It definitely shouldn’t be a glorified business card floating in the void of the internet.

If your website isn't converting visitors into clients, it's not doing its job. Full stop.

Welcome to the reality check (and the rebuild).

Let’s get real about website beginnings

When I launched, I worked with a VA coach and her agency, who also set up my first website. It looked polished, had the logo, the layout, and the basics. But here’s the twist: even with all the pieces technically in place, it still didn’t feel like me.

It looked professional. But it didn’t convert. Because what it had in clean lines, it lacked in connection. It didn’t speak in my voice. It didn’t show off my magic. It was... fine.

Fine doesn’t book clients.

That’s when I learned: looking legit isn’t enough. Feeling aligned? That’s what turns browsers into buyers.

Let’s fix yours so it works with you, not just for you.

Outdated belief we’re smashing:

"Professional websites are clean, minimal, and safe."

Nope. Professional doesn’t mean personality-less. Your website should be your digital home, and when people visit, they should feel like they’ve stepped into your world, not a Wix template.

Let’s say it louder for the people in the freebie seats: There’s absolutely nothing wrong with using a free Canva site when you’re starting out. You don’t need a $10k custom design. You need a site that makes people feel something. That gets them from “Who’s this?” to “Where do I pay?”

The point isn’t the platform. It’s the presence. It’s the voice. It’s the "holy crap, this is exactly what I need" moment.

What a good website feels like

Not "looks like." Feels like. Because looks can lie. But vibes? They convert.

  • Warm, welcoming, and unmistakably YOU

  • Clear AF about what you do (no decoding needed)

  • Easy to navigate, with a path that says “start here”

  • Encouraging the next step (not just showing off past work)

  • Alive, updated, and human – not stiff, silent, or slow

If your site doesn’t feel like a conversation you want to keep having, your clients won’t either.

1. It’s missing a message that connects

Most websites sound like they were written by a committee of robots who once read a marketing textbook.

Let’s fix that.

Your message isn’t a mission statement. It’s a magnet. It should shout: "Here’s who I help, here’s what I do, and here’s why you’ll care."

Example:

"Helping health and wellness coaches find calm, confident support with a VA who’s got systems - and sparkle - sorted."

Translate that energy into your own voice. Say it like you're sending a voice note to your dream client. Keep it real. Keep it tight.

Jo says: If it sounds like a beige brochure, burn it. If it sounds like you after one too many cups of tea and a client win? You're onto something.

2. It’s missing a clear path

Think of your website like a theme park map. People don’t want to guess where the rides are.

If I land on your site and have to play "Where’s the damn offer?" – I’m out.

Your site needs obvious routes:

  • Start here

  • Work with me

  • Here’s what to expect

  • Now take action

Please, for the love of caffeine, stop hiding your contact link in the footer. This isn’t a digital scavenger hunt.

Jo says: Confused clients don’t convert. Make it easy. Make it loud. Make it click-worthy.

3. It’s missing YOU

You are not a stock image. You are not "we" when it’s only you, your laptop, and your dog.

Your website should feel like a cuppa with you. If someone lands on your About page and still doesn’t know what lights you up, what you believe in, or what makes you the right choice, rewrite it.

Use your words. Show your face. Bonus points if there’s a pet cameo.

Jo says: Your clients are craving real. Show up like you do in your best DMs – warm, clear, and totally yourself.

4. It’s missing the right offer (at the right time)

Imagine walking into a shop and the assistant yells, "Wanna buy my premium package? It’s $3k!"

...um, hi?

Your site has to meet people where they are. Not throw offers like spaghetti.

Make it easy to explore, learn, and say yes. That might mean an email series. A $44 starter. A single page that speaks to the heart of what they need.

Jo says: Don’t overwhelm. Invite. Don’t pressure. Position.

5. It’s missing movement

Static sites feel like ghost towns.

Your website should feel alive – not with flashy distractions, but with proof you're here, you're active, and you're growing.

Fresh blog post? Link it.

Client love? Share it.

YouTube short where your dog photobombs your business tip? Embed it.

Jo says: Your digital castle should have signs of life. Don’t build a palace and forget to move in.

Website lies you’ve been sold (and why they suck)

  • "You need a logo before you go live." Nope. You need a point.

  • "Keep your branding neutral so it appeals to everyone." Translation: say nothing.

  • "Don’t make it too personal." Why? Robots don’t buy your services. Humans do.

Jo says: Your weirdness is the brand. Your story is the strategy. Say what matters.

This week’s homework: three things to check now

  1. Homepage headline: Does it explain what you do and who it’s for? No? Fix it.

  2. About page: Can we hear your voice? Can we see your spark? If not, add a story.

  3. Call to action: Is it clear what people should do next? Make it bold. Make it easy.

Why this matters (like, a lot)

“Rewrite the ending. You’re the author now.”

That line lives in this week’s story because it’s the truth so many business owners forget:

You’re not here to look legit.

You’re here to connect.

To convert.

To build a business that feels like you, not like someone else’s idea of success.

If your website feels like a cold handshake or a passive-aggressive LinkedIn post, it’s time to rebel.

Jo says: The right clients are looking for you. Make it easy for them to say yes.
