Reconnect to rise - why your business starts with you

We’re told connection is the secret to a thriving business. How to engage your community.

Build trust. Boost visibility.

But there’s one connection most people ignore: The one with yourself.

Because if you're building a business without checking in with your energy, needs, and values? You might still grow… but it won’t feel good.

If your business feels misaligned, heavy, or off-kilter - even when the boxes are ticked - it’s probably not your strategy. It’s your self-connection that needs a reboot. It’s your relationship with yourself.

Because if you don’t know who you are, what you stand for, and what you actually want?

You’ll build a business that looks great on the outside but feels like a stranger on the inside.

It’s your relationship with yourself.

Because if you don’t know who you are, what you stand for, and what you want?

You’ll build a business that looks great on the outside but feels like a stranger on the inside.

The cost of disconnection (it’s sneaky)

Self-disconnection is subtle.

It shows up like:

  • Following strategies that don’t feel right because “they worked for someone else.”

  • Saying yes to clients who drain you because you feel guilty saying no.

  • Creating offers that don’t light you up because you think they’ll “sell better.”

  • Feeling like a brand chameleon - shapeshifting based on what you think your audience wants.

You might be ticking the boxes.

Clients? ✅

Money? ✅

Momentum? Sort of.

But it still feels… off.

You’re doing the things, showing up online, even ticking goals off your list - but it doesn’t feel like you. That spark you had when you started? It’s gone quiet.

That’s not a marketing problem. That’s usually a sign you’re disconnected from you - your energy, your instincts, your actual reasons for starting this whole thing in the first place.

Reconnect to self is a business strategy

Connection to self isn’t a luxury. It’s not optional. It’s not something you earn after hitting your income goals.

It’s not indulgent.

It’s not something you squeeze in after your to-do list is done.

It’s the foundation of everything in your business.

Because when you’re deeply connected to yourself

✔ You make clearer decisions.

✔ You attract better-fit clients.

✔ You stop second-guessing everything.

✔ You feel more grounded in your message.

✔ You create offers that reflect your strengths.

When you’re disconnected from yourself?

You outsource your power. You default to what’s popular. You dilute your voice.your audience feels it - even if they can’t name it.

Ask yourself - who’s really driving your business?

Take a second.

Whose voice is loudest in your business right now?

  • That course creator you admire?

  • Your high-performing peer on Instagram?

  • A past client who made you doubt yourself?

  • Or… your own?

So many VAs and solopreneurs start out building a business that feels personal - then slowly shape it around other people’s expectations.

They brand for the dream client and forget their own dreams.

They systemise based on someone else’s template.

They post content that gets engagement but leaves them cold.

Until one day, they look around and think:

“This doesn’t feel like mine anymore.”

The quiet saboteur - limiting beliefs (dressed as logic)

Here’s the kicker:

Even when you try to connect to yourself, limiting beliefs will show up - disguised as “common sense.”

  • “I can’t charge that much.”

  • “No one will take me seriously if I say that.”

  • “I have to work hard to deserve success.”

  • “That wouldn’t work for someone like me.

These thoughts don’t sound dramatic.

They sound reasonable - which is precisely why they go unchallenged.

But they’re not truths.

They’re scripts you picked up from past experiences, conditioning, other people’s fears.

If your business is built on beliefs that aren’t even yours, how can it ever feel aligned?

How to rebuild that connection (start small, go deep)

You don’t need a three-day retreat or a rebrand.

You need five minutes and a mirror.

Mirror work is simple.

Stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eyes, and say something powerful out loud.

Three times. Slowly.

Like:

  • “I trust myself to know what’s right for me.”

  • “My business gets to feel like mine.”

  • “I’m allowed to build this my way.”

It feels awkward at first. Then it starts to land. Then, it starts to change everything.

Because when you affirm who you are - not once, but regularly - your actions follow. Your business follows. Your audience follows.

But mirror work is one piece. If you're ready to go deeper:

Daily journaling prompts that reconnect you to your voice:

Try “What do I want today — really?” or “Where am I ignoring my own truth?”

Weekly CEO check-ins:

Every Friday, ask:

What felt good?

What didn’t?

What am I tolerating that I don’t want to anymore?

Create a 'Yes' and 'No' list: Write down what you're available for - and what you're not. Let it guide your decisions.

Notice your body’s response: Does this decision feel expansive or heavy? Your body knows before your brain catches up.

Delete and unsubscribe ruthlessly: From newsletters, follows, and subscriptions that cloud your clarity. Mute anyone who makes you question your own instincts.

Say no faster: Stop marinating in guilt. Saying “no” doesn’t need a backstory. It’s a full sentence.

Reconnect through joy: Do something outside of business that lights you up. The more connected you feel as a person, the more clarity you’ll have as a business owner.

You can’t outsource this. You can’t automate it.

But you can make it your greatest strength.

Self-connection looks like…

Knowing your energy - and building around it.

(You don’t have to be “on” all the time.)

Be honest about what lights you up - and what drains you.

(You’re allowed to pivot. Permission granted.)

Saying no without guilt - and yes without fear.

(Your time, your energy, your rules.)

Creating offers that make sense for how YOU work best - not how the industry says you should.

(Boundaries are business tools.)

Trusting your instincts - even when the strategy says otherwise.

(That gut feeling? It’s not wrong.)
